The highly anticipated NYC premiere of THE SKINNY, the third feature film from Patrik-Ian Polk (PUNKS, NOAH’S ARC) will be presented during the First Annual Pride Cultural Series at the Faison Firehouse Theater, 6 Hancock Place, Harlem, NY 10027 opening Friday, June 8th with proceeds benefiting GMAD’s (Gay Men of African Decent) Charles Angel Youth Leadership Academy's 'Stop the BS' campaign- an anti gay-bullying and suicide initiative.

A sharply scripted comedy, THE SKINNY tells the story of four young, black, gay men (Magnus, Sebastian, Kyle, Joey) and their lesbian best friend (Langston), who meet up in New York City one year after their graduation from Brown University. Their plans for a weekend of fun start off well, relaxed in each other’s company as only old friends can be. But old tensions quickly resurface.

Drinking, drugs, hidden desire and the demands of promiscuity put friendship, trust and even lives at risk. In between sharp one-liners and a great soundtrack there’s a few important lessons that these pleasure-seekers must learn for themselves. Written with a real sense of the demands of urban living, these bright and believable characters will remind you of someone you know. Remaining true to his past work, Polk addresses issues in THE SKINNY that face the LGBT community such as date-rape, infidelity, and HIV/AIDS awareness.

The film stars Jussie Smollett (the former child actor of “Mighty Ducks” & “North”, and older brother of well-known actress Jurnee Smollett), Blake Young-Fountain, Anthony Burrell, Shanika Warren-Markland and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. Supporting cast includes alumnus of Polk’s past features such as Darryl Stephens (“Noah’s Arc”), Jennia Fredrique (“Noah’s Arc”), Wilson Cruz (“Noah’s Arc”) and Seth Gilliam (“Punks”, “The Wire”, “Oz”, “Teen Wolf”). The cast also includes newcomers Dustin Ross and internet sensation B. Scott.

THE SKINNY’s open-ended NYC run begins Friday, June 8th at the Faison Firehouse Theatre in Harlem (6 Hancock Place, New York, NY 10027) as the featured film of the Firehouse's First Annual Pride Cultural Series.

My Personal Inspiration: B. Scott

As the month of February continues I will continue to highlight individuals who have personally inspired me to be the individual that I am. Many people that have inspired me of color are in the arts, entertainment, and beauty world; however I am inspired in so many other ways that range from health backgrounds, political, and athletic. The next individual would have to be one of the first rising internet gaylebrities that I can think of and is still going strong. I have had the opportunity to meet this diva several times and I really do think that he deserves all the recognition he receives and really want to give him a special honor for black history month. Thank you B. Scott for all the wonderfulness you have done for our community and holding it down for all gay men of color.


B. Scott, (born Brandon Scott Sessoms on March 21, 1981) is an American television personality, radio show host and internet celebrity who is best known for his YouTube videoblogs and website lovebscott.com.
Sessoms, as B. Scott, who is openly gay, has become a popular internet personality through his visibility on YouTube and his personal website, lovebscott.com, which primarily focuses on the five pillars of Pop culture: Celebrity News, Fashion, Music, Nightlife, and Miscellaneous Entertainment. The website's intent is to approach entertainment and celebrity news with a positive spin. The name lovebscott.com was selected in an effort to give his website a readily-identifiable personality with the mission of conveying a positive outlook. In May 2007, B. Scott started incorporating YouTube videos into his website to personally connect with his readers. The videos include personal observations, celebrity news, musical performances, political commentary, interviews and messages of encouragement to the audience. The videos are produced out of B. Scott's Los Angeles residence. The YouTube site maintains a subscriber base of over 90,000, and has won numerous awards for viewership and subscriptions. B. Scott has won the Best Video Blog by The Black Weblog Awards in 2007 and 2008. In January 2008, B. Scott was selected by YouTube to become one of the company's partners.
In 2009, B. Scott created 'The B. Scott Show,' a talk/variety-style internet show that ran concurrent to the original videoblog. Interview subjects included celebrities and important figures in the LGBT community. Interviews are conducted in B. Scott's home and broadcast on both the YouTube channel and the website. Celebrities interviewed have included Ne-Yo, Ashanti, Eva Marcille, LeToya Luckett, Mariah Carey, Jordin Sparks, and Chilli (of TLC).
B. Scott’s YouTube channel has led to recognition from numerous celebrities. Popular blogger Perez Hilton in 2007 named B. Scott his “Favorite New YouTuber”. In addition, on June 19, 2009, Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx declared on his Sirius Satellite Radio channel “The Foxxhole”, “I love B. Scott. He’s very attractive. He looks like a cross between Prince, Rosario Dawson and Lenny Kravitz.” This unsolicited acclaim helped open B. Scott to a new level of recognition.

B. Scott is one of the first black gay internet gaylebrities to cross over into mainstream entertainment with appearances on The Tyra Banks Show and on the Oxygen Television Network. With all of his hard work and dedication this is one gaylebrity that is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Hello everyone. Happy New Year! I am so happy that the new year has arrived. It's time for a change. As we continue throughout our own individual adventures, there are times when we look at other people's work, and it catches out eyes. That's how I felt throughout the year. 11. Alonzo Lerone

The way I stumbled upon you was very accidental. I was just done watching the 2009 BET Awards. So I suspected that videos of the awards show was going to be posted on Youtube. I was really astounded by Beyonce's performance, I wanted to see it again. Then I am browsing around the internet, and there was a picture taken from her performance. I clicked on the video, and it turned out to be one of your music reviews.

There was no judgement at all when I first noticed you. You are entertaining, funny, creative, and extremely good looking. I will continue watching your music reviews. You just keep on making informative comedy. We love you for that.

B. Scott! Once again, you are becoming a major star in our eyes. Your individualism, creativity, stylish looks, entrepreneurship, and cleverness makes us want more from you. The first time I noticed you was on Youtube. Noah's Arc was becoming a major thing in the press. Then I was browsing around the site, looking for interviews from the cast. Then I saw the interview you did with Jensen Atwood.

The moment I saw that interview, I didn't get enough of you. I check your website every single day. It's been added to my daily journalism list. Every day, I go your website to see the news. Then I watch new episodes of your show. Continue with great success B. Scott. We love you very much.

9. Finding Me: Cast and Crew

Now I have to acknowledge the entire cast and crew of the hit movie "Finding Me." I loved the movie. The acting was on point. Each story was addictive. I was never bored the least. For people who have not bought the movie, where have ya'll been. Faybien's story is something that everyone can relate to. Despite our sexuality, we have difficulties finding ourselves.

The thing I like about this film is that the relationships is nationwide. I have shown this to one of my friends who is straight, and he thought he was Faybien for a quick second. The minute I heard that, it came to me. This is not just for gay people. Any person can see themselves as any of these characters. Because of that, I give the cast and crew of "Finding Me" my deepest respect and support. You know I am going to see the sequel "Finding Me: Truth."

8. Rapper Bryn't

When it comes to music, I was listening to your music nonstop. I believe your music was the first music I've ever listened to that surrounded the gay community. The moment I heard your music, your mixtapes were in my IPod five minutes later. I listened to both mixtapes 5 times each in one day.

I kept my headphones on, and listened to every lyric on each track. I didn't want to miss a single message you were sending through your music. It's raw, creative, and original. Bryn't, your music is something that we need to listen. Just know that I am a fan, and I'll be supporting and listening to you till the day I die. 100% respect. Keep on doing what you do.

7. Xem Van Adams

Xem Van Adams is one of the inspiring people I have ever seen on a computer screen. From one writer to another, I love your work. I mostly read what you say than watch your videos. But either way, I love you. The thing I love about you is that you branch out to different things surrounding the community that we all keep on talking about. Not only that, but you show us your vulnerability to things in the world.

You give us these amazing stories because you've gone through the things you talk about. That is what I love about you. Your own individual success has become a journey that I watch nonstop. I know you wouldn't be here without a large group of people that help you out everyday. Tell all of them "Congratulations."

I've got nothing but love, respect, and support for you too. And I am looking forward to watching "The Blogger" when it comes on tv. Just like you said. You're Conquering the World One Word at a Time.

6. ADTV

Hands down, ADTV is one of my favorite shows right now. There is not a day that goes by when I never stop talking about the show. Derrick L. Briggs, Matthew Barrett, Ryan Drake, and J'Nara Corbin, you guys are doing a great job. I remember watching this show when it was just Derrick L. Briggs and Adam Benjamin Irby. Ever since then, I have seen it grown during each passing season.

It's become very informative surrounding the community. I love watching four different points of view. For me, I love it when I see four different perspectives of life come together to talk about the situation at hand. I grew up watching Oprah, The View, and Tyra. I loved watching sitcoms like Friends and Girlfriends. I guess that's why 4 is my favorite number. I love the realness of the show. You guys just always seem to come up with the best topics. One thing I saw while reading the comments is that people were going through a certain situation, and before you know it, an episode of your show comes on and it is talking about the situation at hand.

That's the reason why I love the show. You have my 100% support, love, and respect. And I am going getting this feeling that this is just the beginning for ADTV. Below is my favorite episode from you guys.

5. Adam Benjamin Irby

As I browse around the internet. There is not a day that goes by that I don't go check out the weblog of Adam Benjamin Irby. He has been called the "Carrie Bradshaw" in the gay community. I don't put him under that label. I call him "One of the greatest gay writers in the world." Adamsweblog.com is my day-to-day site. I literally go on his website everyday. If he doesn't have any new posts, I go check out the old ones.

What I love about you is your realness. You are not afraid to tell us these amazing stories. Each story makes me feel how I feel when I read a book. I am a fan of nonfiction books. When you talk about your life, you are not afraid to say what is going on around you. You are honest, raw, and creative with it. You are an amazing writer. As you continue to update your blog, I see how you grow as the days go by. Everyone's life is like a roller coaster. We all make mistakes and learn from it. Keep on writing dude. You have my 100% love, support, and respect.

4. The Cast of Drama Queenz

This series is becoming a major hit online. As it starts airing season 2, Drama Queenz continues to entertain me nonstop with it's stories. It's funny, entertaining, and purely original. For me, I kind of hate the comparisons it get from the tv show Noah's Arc. This show is something I have never seen before. Even Noah's Arc can't touch this. Three gay friends showing the life in New York City. I have never seen a show that did that before. This show stands out on it's own. Continue great success. Dane Joseph, Kristen-Alexzander Griffith, and Troy Valjean Rucker.

3. Dwight Allen O'Neal

I cannot do this list without acknowledging my good friend Dwight Allen O' Neal. I didn't put you on this just because you are my friend. I put you on this list personally and professionally. You are one of the greatest people I have ever known. Your ideas for these different shows are so amazing. Dating Dwight, Christopher Street, and Dishing It With Dwight. I am so happy to see you grow, and you're individualism makes you shine that an forever-lighting star. My heart races every time I think about you. Friend to friend, I give you all the love I have. I am looking forward to watching more episodes of Christopher Street and the second season of Dating Dwight. I keep on watching the current episodes nonstop.

2. Nathan "Seven" Scott

Nathan, Nathan, Nathan! Sometimes I still wonder how the heck we walked into each others lives? Then I remember it like it was yesterday. We got connected when I was doing my talk show on Youtube Zolra's Corner at the time. You were doing The & Show the same time as well. I forgot who sent a message to whom first. But I so happy we met. Because of that, I have found someone I consider a mentor.

Like you said, you was born to lead. You like to lead projects. What I love about you is that you listen to everyone until every word leaves the mouth. When you are listening to ideas from three different people, you have a way of combining all three of them together and create something that we all can relate to. Now that you are doing "We Are The Media" now, I continue to watch you succeed. You have become a perfect partner and perfect friend. You listen when I'm happy. You listen to me when I cry. You even listen to be when I feel alone. I am so happy you are in my life. Now you're about to make me cry in a quick second!

1. My Future Forward Family

From the moment I started doing this, I already knew who I was going to pick as #1. Throughout the whole year, The Future Forward has become family to me. Ever since Nathan offered me to write for the site, it automatically started to feel like family. I may write for different websites and blogs now, but none of them can make me feel the way I feel about this site.

Nathan Seven Scott, Dwight Allen O' Neal, Cornelius Jones Jr., Lil Mogul Richard E. Pelzer II, and Waddie J. You have no idea how much I feel about you guys. It makes me cry everytime I'm working for the site. I love each and every one of ya'll at the bottom of my heart. What each of ya'll contribute makes me proud of having good friends that loves to do what they aspire to become. Being 18 years old, I feel lucky that I have met you guys. I can't wait till I move there to New York. So that I squeeze each and every one of ya'll, and show you how much I love you guys.

The Making of a King

What New York rapper is royal, empowering, majestic, and stylish? Abdul Jabbar or for us King Jabbar. This Capricorn is on a journey toward breaking into the LGBT music world as well as mainstream. I had the pleasure of sitting down talking with him about who he is and what I think he needs to do in order to get his music career on the next level.


Now a days gay celebrities are popping up everyday, in New York City alone there is a new socialite who is making a song, throwing a party, or trying to be the next big thing, however this city has only birthed a few that are mainstream gay celebrities who are creating careers that are hitting outside the 5 boroughs or the New Jersey area. What is that Maurice Jamal, XEM Van Adams, Maurice Runea, B. Scott, Bry’nt, Derrick L. Briggs, DJ Baker, or Nathan H. Williams are doing? The formula is really simple they are hot and they are promoting themselves. My entertainment Mantra has always been “If you cannot sell yourself, no one else will and this is very important to break into any industry. As for King Jabbar he is halfway there, he has the talent, style, charisma, looks, now we have to get him his crown, you cannot be royalty with out your crown.

When you talk to King Jabbar you don’t get rapper instantly, you would think that this rapper would be a neo soul artist who would meditate in the middle of central park with a tribe. He is just so spiritual and down to earth, which is why he credits Eryka Baydu as his influence. Being into numerology, astrology, oils, and keeping your aura in white light is what keeps King Jabbar grounded in his quest for stardom. King Jabbar has always wanted to be in the music business, because he loves entertainment, he briefly modeled in the past; however stopped once it took away from his relationship with others and his music. It is no surprise that he was apart of fashion, because he and Grace Jones could be best friends when it comes down to his fashion sense and his addiction to Soho (must see shopping area in NYC). With his seducing eyes, sense of style, and his attitude toward thought before expression he has several tools that will get him far.

As King Jabbar sat in a huge chair facing me, I felt like a king was looking right through me. Although I was conducting the talk, I sensed some aggressiveness within him. That’s when romance came up, I was very intrigued with how King Jabbar felt toward romance and where did that fall in his life as of now, as King Jabbar went through a list of all his goals that he has planned for the next year (an album and mix tape included) I learned that love right now was not a priority; however a supportive friend who can bring something to the table is always accepted and in doing so safer sex practices are a must. He is very passionate about our community protecting ourselves and thinking prior to your actions. When he is in a relationship though this shy Capricorn may be a little more aggressive than passive, just don’t expect for him to make the first move.

When you want to catch this up and comer you better hope to catch him shopping in Soho or a Friday night (his favorite day of the week), cause other times he is working on his passion “music”. When asked who you could compare yourself to, he responds not really anyone (they all say that), yet if you are a Busta Rymes, Andre 3000, or Shaggy Fan, this is the LGBT artist you want to get into… A king is born! Who is Nando?

I'm a Mexican dating blogger who was given up for adoption three hours after birth then illegally brought to the USA in a basket full of newspapers. Oh, and I also like men.

When did you start your blog?

Officially, around June 2008 and it keeps evolving, just like I do. If you go back to early posts, you will see that the style of writing is quite different.

What's your blog's theme?

I'm not sure it really has a specific theme as much as it has a general purpose. We all date--so some would call it Nando's Dating Blog--we all go through ups and downs and my blog pretty much documents those dating disasters but I also blog about daily life issues--like fights with friends, job mishaps and other quirky happenings. And whether you're gay, straight, Latin or whatever, you can relate to my stories and hopefully, follow along as I learn life lessons.

What other things are you involved with?

I create Men's Grooming Reviews for A Girl's Gotta Spa, Gay Online Dating Vlogs for GetSteady.com, and I'm a Dating Advice Panelist for Luv em OR Leave em. I also do Social Media Consulting for various businesses.

Why don't you post regularly?

Cause they don't make blog fiber. And I'm not a robot, I'm a guy who has feeling and feel stuff. I'm a bit lazy too. I'm 34 and single. And to my surprise I'm a cougar.

Where are you from?

I'm originally from the great town of Juarez, Mexico where they murder whores, but I was raised in Odessa, Texas where they dislike gays.

Why did you move to New York?

My friend Julie invited me to come live with her and her then boyfriend, now husband, in a beautiful Brownstone in Brooklyn. I moved to New York 2 months prior to 9/11. The three of us bonded tremendously and still have a strong connection.

Do you have enemies?

Many. In school, (elementary and Jr. High) I was the most picked-on kid. I remember the entire band at Crockett Jr. High would line up at the band hall and hit me, one at a time, as I walked over to put my instrument in its slot. But I also have a BFF named Cris, (that's Cris with no H) and she's been there for me since the 4th grade!

Would you like to kill the people who were mean to you?

No, I just accept their friend request on MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, but NEVER comment on their status. (It's a silent and passive revenge)

What's your life's philosophy?

People are capable of change--so let them.

What do you want people to walk-away with after reading your blog?

That we're really all the same and our experiences prove it. And that I believe the children are our future.
