It will be so PRECIOUS

It was a PRECIOUS week!!! On Tuesday, the Oscar nominations were announced and we were focused almost entirely on director Lee Daniels' moving picture Precious, which is up for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Gabourey Sidibe), Best Supporting Actress (Mo'Nique), Best Adapted Screenplay (Geoffrey Fletcher), and Best Film Editing (Joe Klotz). That's six nominations. And come March 7, the film could very well win them all.

Best Picture. It's up against The Hurt Locker and Up In The Air, sure, but we expect Academy voters to shun the blockbuster fare of Avatar in favor of 2009's most buzzworthy film. A vote for Precious is a vote against domestic violence, or so its producers are hoping everyone believes. The film stars blockbuster names (Mariah Carey, Mo'Nique), but not blockbuster attitudes. It didn't just move theatergoers to discuss the film, it created a dialogue. And because of its commercial success, a vote for Precious doesn't just reward a picture that moved people, but rewards a picture that did so while propping up the industry.

Best Director. Besides an endorsement from Oprah, director Lee Daniels is not on an uphill battle. He's the odds-on favorite. His competition is not Inglourious Basterds' Quentin Tarantino, but The Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow. Daniels' telling of a sexually abused and forgotten teenage girl, who achieves small triumphs along the way, is a story more human than other of the other contenders. That doesn't make it Oscar bait, but Daniels' so-far humble acceptance of the industry's lauding will go a long way.

Best Actress. A twentysomething newcomer in the industry, Gabourey Sidibe's skyrocketed to muted fame, thanks to her daring portrayal of Precious's title character. She is not a Hollywood player — but she faces stiff competition from the very well-received efforts of Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep, a critic darling. A win for Sidibe would be the Academy's way of solidifying Precious as 2009's ultimate movie of the year. A snub, however, would mean only that voters were absolutely wowed with Bullock's ability to go from Miss Congeniality to, well, awesome.

Best Supporting Actress. There's been no formal Oscar campaign for Mo'Nique, a decision about as purposeful as campaigning for an Oscar. She has not vocalized any desire to win trophies, although she's been handsomely rewarded at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. Utterly transformed in her role as an abusive, love-starved mother, Mo'Nique helped carry Precious as much as its star. And she "gives good speech," a remarkably powerful criteria for choosing winners.

Best Adapted Screenplay. Whether or not Academy voters read the book — 1996's Push — that inspired the film, awarding screenwriter Fletcher the Oscar for transforming Sapphire's novel into a big screen production will have only one downside: snubbing In The Loop's amazingly talented writers. But if Precious is destined to win Best Picture and turn Daniels into a Best Director winner, we find it hard to believe the Academy would not also reward the man responsible for Precious' inner dialogue.

Best Film Editing. If you enjoyed the mindfuck animated montages on Precious (we didn't), then you'll understand why the Oscar could go to editor Joe Klotz. But he faces a huge battle against Avatar's Team Cameron, and this is the one award Precious stands a good chance of losing.

If you think the film is to heavy to go see... Check out this trailer:

MUSIC VIDEO: "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Mariah Carey

R&B/pop superstar Mariah Carey finally drops the new music video for the second single from her Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel album title "I Want To Know Love Is." The video of the cover song, which was originally recorded by pop/rock Steve Perry and his band Foreigner, was shot in New York City by the ubiquitous Hype Williams.

"Love Is" is the classiest single Ms. Carey has released in a long time. The video captures more of the emotion of the song and family bonding rather than the singer's skimpy, sexy image that Carey forces onto viewers. Thus, a beautifully produced video was born.

Noticed a Black male couple featured frequently in the video? That is a rarity among music video. It is a surprise that Lady Gaga did not concoct that idea first.

Enjoy!

Upset Monday!

Gaywood? “Gaywood” is a word that I created which molds together LGBT and Hollywood, it is a mentality that is becoming very popular in the New York City’s gay culture and spreading throughout our country like a wild fire. When having the opportunity to dish with me I want to highlight and speak about things that affect my everyday life and things that may be discussed abroad; basically venting. Here lately there has been a lot of talk that I am very “Hollywood” and at first I thought about taking this statement as an insult; however through the power of the mind we can filter things and translate them however we want and I am choosing to remove the negativity from the comment and making it a positive observation of who I am.

With the gays I do believe that many were unfortunately not the most treasured jewels in school, many were probably teased, and taunted and as an adult they have fully embraced who they are and this is why they transform and morph into ballroom legends, drag queens, commentators, party promoters, YouTube sensations, and other larger than life personalities for the LGBT community and through all this work they have created “Gaywood,” which is a fictionalized state of mind that only comes with perks that Diana Ross would frown upon ( if you are in “Gaywood” you know what I mean).

I think what I find the most funny about this “Gaywood” mentality is that many gay celebrities don’t really care about being in the limelight and they feel very normal, sometimes confidence is mistaken for “Gaywood.” Because those that I guess would be considered average make a great living, can date whoever they desire, and are very happy. HELL the Gaywood patrons who live there lives in the limelight are probably independently supporting there many crafts from purchasing garments, hair/make-up, website development, video production, spending time writing, uploading videos; which leaves no time for dating and many people they do want to date feel inadequate to there fictional superior title that has been issued to them or they are obsessed with it and are using the individuals for the little fame that they are given. Now I know that you are probably reading this and thinking about the people that enjoy this stardom that they have achieved and you may even criticize them, because there are many that have allowed there fame to boost there egos; however please know that they are no better than you or me.

What sparked this blog post was a conversation that I had with a very well known NYC promoter and we discussed how it’s hard for him to find true love with popularity and my response was “You too are a victim of Gaywood.” When being in this limelight so much responsibility is placed upon your shoulders and you don’t know where it came from, mainstream America doesn’t know who you are, half the gays are jealous of you, and all you have that makes you happy is the work that you are producing for the kidz (gays).

My experience with Gaywood is many of my peers have considered me to be fake, phony, or this “pretend” mega star, which is pure comedy to me, I wish people understood that there are very few people that I allow to get close enough to me to actually know the real me, and I am polite to everyone, so please stop the judgment. I am a normal young black man who has many dreams and aspirations and I came to New York to pursue them and find real love, both are two challenges that I don’t plan on giving up on. Yes I am probably considered a gay individual that is known because of my work and I am only human, I am not perfect and I have made many mistakes, I just hope that my work entertains, educates, and enhances our culture to greater things. All I ask is that we collectively come together as a community and uplift one another and if you are residence of this “Gaywood” mentality that you don’t forget that you are no different then any other gay to mainstream society, it’s not about the fame, it’s about the love and the development that we can offer one another. And if you have not fell victim of “Gaywood” just know that everyone that is known is only known because you continue to talk about them.

H.A.T.E.U “Having a typical emotional upset”

So Mariah Carey is acting up and I think I might want to press charges against her, can you believe that one day while I was asleep on the train she must have went in my murse and ripped several pages from my journal! WTF! I say this because her next single from what I have heard speaks from a place that is so familiar to me. Now my many friends know that I am a die hard Beyonce’ fan and I will cut you if you say anything bad about her; however Mariah has really been giving me what I need with this new tune. If you don’t believe me, here check it out live in NYC for the “Today” show.

Upset Monday Break-up quote:

Dishin' it with Dwight--- Triple M- MOVIES, MUSIC, MTV Madness

So don't know if you have gotten to the movies recently, however there are some great ones that I have checked out. You must see "Orphan" when I tell you that this orphan in this movie did everything but turn her new family loose, it is the truth. Get your butts out to the movies ASAP... Coming soon are a few new movies and I am highlighting Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" starring Mary J. Blige and Taraji Henson it looks really good and Tyler Perry is really doing his thing at producing his stage plays into films I declare him as an honorary THE Future Member... Check out the trailer and let me know what you think...

Also Eve is going to be seen in a new film and word on the street is she will be dropping a new album very soon as well... UMMM Tambourine was very hot two years ago and I cannot wait to hear what tops that, can she do it? Only time will tell... As for the film Eve skates her way through Whip It, Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut starring Ellen Page (Juno) and Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live). Eve plays a roller derby girl named Rosa Sparks. Coming in October, until then check out the trailer here:

And last but not least you must see Mariah Carey's remix video to her hot new single "Obsessed" I know some of you hate it and there are always rumors about her, however I think the song is hot because she addressed the issues with her stalker, we all know who this rapper is and this man of THE Future thinks he is totally overrated. Personally a song for him was not worth her time, however I can imagine my own obsessed one in his place... Check out the Music Video with Gucci MAN, which I guess that's code for GOOD MAN, because I recently learned that Gucci means Good... Check out and and leave a comment if you think its GUCCI or NOT...

Congrats to MTV, Jalia who is representing the transgender community on Diddy's Making His Band reality series. Also revealed was America's Best Dance Crew first-ever transgender dance group, Vogue Evolution. Lets keep pushing our community toward the success we all deserve... Thanks MTV!!!
