GET AHEAD 102: The Promiscuity Tour is an interactive film/music festival that uses art to engage and educate College and University students about sexually transmitted diseases and the risks associated with engaging in sexually promiscuous behavior. This project was launched at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. Ubuntu Education Fund is the music sponsor for this project and we are very excited about this new endeavor.
The kick off event October 1, 2009 at the University of Michigan was a huge success!
The event was conceptualized and produced by Brandon Littlejohn, Ubuntu College Ambassador, University of Michigan student and President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, Epsilon Chapter.
There wasn’t an empty seat in the house and the energy in the room was palpable.
The film content, produced by Rod Gailes OBC and The League of Awareness (6 Things I Never Told You), was extremely impactful, leading to many attendees opting to get tested right after the screening.
The event features safe sex education stations where students can get condoms, fun giveaways, information about safe sex practices and even get tested for HIV onsite! The Promiscuity Tour uses a model to engage youth that is similar to the prevention outreach Ubuntu uses in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The live music, sponsored by Ubuntu Education Fund featured performances from: iYana, Nick Morin, and L'Renee.
In the words of students in attendance:
"Knowing my status never hit home until I experienced the Promiscuity Project. I love
how it didn’t preach but inspired me to make better decisions.”
“The Promiscuity Project makes it kinda cool and ok to negotiate healthier sexual
choices for yourself. I’m glad I went.”
The Promiscuity Project will tour college campuses across the country this spring offering students a high energy, interactive experience that they won’t soon forget!
