WHAT IS MEMORIAL DAY?

So as you know I am in Miami enjoying all the beautiful men, women, and more men at Sizzle 2010 and I noticed that a lot of people are here celebrating PRIDE; however don't know what Memorial Day is... Well today's dish is really quick and straight to the point. What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I.

Thank God for another year!

Thank you to everyone who left me a special birthday message on Facebook.  I have one request.  Please post your favorite memory of me.  I've been blessed to be on this planet for 38 years and I am grateful to be alive today.  If you are reading this then I have impacted your life in some way.  Hopefully, you have a fond memory of me at least.  Ha ha!

Have a great Memorial Day!

Bromance Denied, Wild Girls Granted?

One thing I noticed about going to a karaoke club is that everyone is welcome to go there. I am excited that I am at the legal age of go inside. When you walk inside a club you finally get the chance to say "Triple shot of Vodka." I am not twenty one years old yet, but I get excited every time they say something like that.

On this particular night, I began to raise questions regarding a recent incident. Everyone was completely sober in the room when I walked in. No one even took a sip of their drinks. This gave me a chance to see how people act when they are sober.

One hour after being in the room, the music started flowing nicely, and the drinks were coming from everywhere. This was the first time I ever had to tell someone ten times that I am underage. The next song that came on was Dynamite by Taio Cruz. Whenever that song came on, everyone goes crazy. Every time that song is played everyone is kissing each other.

Suddenly, the owner of the club started asking people to come on stage and show affection. These one group of friends decided to go up there. Two girls and two guys. They were dancing all over the place while I was sitting in the middle of the room, watching where everything took place.

Ten minutes later, the affection began. You can look at them and know they don't date the same sex. One girl and one guy were dating each other. The four of them has been best friends since childhood and were always not afraid to show affection in front of each other. The two guys kissed each other first. They were showing off true bromance. I turned around to see their reaction. Some of them were raising their eyebrows. Then the girls kissed each other and everyone went wild.

Three hours later, I walked out of that place feeling extremely confused. The crowd know that the two guys are just best friends, but they still felt a little disgusted that they kissed. As for the girls, they didn't mind it at all. Instead, they wanted to be a part of it. Once I got home, the incident got me thinking.

Why do people mostly want to see women act wild than men show true bromance?

It Is What It Is Pt. 6 by Karen Minors

Malachi stood at six feet four inches tall, and weighed about two hundred and thirty pounds. I was good at gauging a person’s body frame because I spent a lot of time at the gym and knew how to size up a body. I could tell that he worked out regularly, because he was cut up. Body chiseled and very defined. He had creamy, French vanilla skin, and I thought that man can be the cream in my coffee!  His eyes were blue-grey and his hair brownish-blonde and wavy. He had just enough facial hair that you could see his five o’clock shadow, and he had a full, thick moustache. I had to turn away or he would catch me staring. Men always gawked at women, I thought, so it’s all good for me to do the same!
I have never seen this man at the Arena before, and I come here all the time. I swim three days a week, and run four to five times a week. I was determined to break the generational curse of obesity and hypertension which ran rampant in my family. Thus, I committed myself to a healthy lifestyle, which included eating right and daily exercise. I always remained focused on my workout program at the Arena, but this man took my mind away for a few moments. Now all I had to do was get up the nerve to speak.

american girl by c.r. knight

Christina Aguilera has out done herself in this music video. The video has a glossy live magazine feel to it. I've been listening to this song on repeat all day long and it might have to be my theme song for the week.

Clearly inspired by Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Madonna and yes, even Angela Bassett, Aguilera makes it a point to disrupt your senses with this vocally powerful 'i'm a bad girl now' summer smash. She definitely redefines sexy mama. What do you think of the video?

Good Knight!

It Is What It Is Pt. 5 by Karen Minors

Milan tested me later, asking “Don’t you want a man who could at least pray for you and with you if you were on your sick bed?” She had a point. And I prayed long and hard, and received the same answer that He gave me six months prior to us breaking up for good. I stayed home from work and moved out in one day. I left Joaquin a “Dear John” letter on the kitchen counter along with my set of house keys, and never looked back.
So, here I am, single and successful in my career. I have goals that I still want to achieve, and even though I am no one’s wife, I know whatever God has for me, it is for me. I am no longer that complacent woman in search of her soul mate. When it happens for me, I will have to let go of the past and move on. I have accepted my singleness and am happy for once. My girlfriends are still trying to hook me up, and I am open to dating. I know that this time around, I will not settle for less than what I expect. He must first have a relationship with God. And he must treat me right!

Arts.Advocacy+Wellness: "Teen Actors Light up The Stage in 8 Original Plays"

Teen Actors Light up The Stage
in 8 Original Plays

I do believe that our youth are THE FUTURE.

Two years ago I began teaching acting for a non-profit organization called Opening Act,
an after-school program that provides acting training to under-served teens in various New York City Public Schools. Accepting this opportunity would be my first time teaching youth and in the New York City Public school system for an extended period of time. Prior to this, I would freelance around New York City and beyond conducting workshops and master classes in leadership, acting, dance, and voice. Though that was very fulfilling I felt I never really stayed long enough to make that connective investment and see the young girl or boy grow.

Nervous about this new chapter in my life, I followed my heart and committed to the young girls and boys of Opening Act who dared to dream big, be better, and become more in this life. I knew I had the tools to share my knowledge and professional experience in theater with the young actors, however, I didn't forsee how each student would teach me how to be a better teacher, a stronger artist, a better communicator, a better listener, and a more powerful creative and spiritual being.

I am proud of the experience and gifts that I have been blessed with.

Opening Act provides a space where students can shine, not just on stage, but in their personal lives as well. Modeling its program on providing students with an artistic space where they can develop commitment, community, and leadership through their artistic achievement. Theater is life...Life is theater, and theater is an agent and or vehicle for social change. Change in one's perceptions of who they are, change in one's emotional and physical well being, a change in one's unfortunate circumstance which has the potential to illuminate one's fortunate circumstances.

Hopefully you can hear how deeply I believe in this program and this why today on Arts.Advocacy+Wellness Wednesday I am choosing to feature such an important organization and such important young people.

Therefore I invite you out today, Wednesday May 19th, to the Closing Night Performances of Shades Of Grey. Eight original plays written by the student Acting Companies of Opening Act. Come see what inspiring and entertaining work these young students have worked so hard to write, perform, and produce.
Opening Act brings high quality after-school theater programs to eight NYC public high schools in need. Theater is the medium through which our students gain confidence, pride, and the knowledge that they can succeed at anything in life. Find out more about our work - and how theater can and does transform teens' lives – at OpeningActNewYork.org.

The Tee says, "Victoria's Secrets are not just for HER!"

So women have Victoria’s Secret to look sexy in the bedroom and guys think they don’t have to go that extra mile to please their woman or man. Now I can only speak from my point of view and I personally love to wear sexy underwear for my partner. I have not always been that way, because I thought if I wore a cute outfit I was ok. That is not true regardless of someone looking at your underwear or not you should defiantly wear something cute under your clothes, that separates a true fashionista and someone who just so happens to wear cute clothes. I hate seeing a guy in a cute pair of skinny jeans and there shirt is short and then all I see is some “Family Dollar” huge boxers.

Now for me I like to wear underwear and swimwear that fits my body, now as my partner may know I have thunder thighs, baby making hips, and a huge butt. These are all parts of my body that I have learned to embrace and usually the boys love it, I just feel like it makes my shape overly feminine, well on last year I decided that I would wear my first sexy swimsuit to the beach and I learned that every cut is not appropriate for you, just like a woman and her bra, there are certain areas a guy would like contoured or enhanced. It is very important to get the appropriate garments to look sexy with your clothes on and off. I personally always wear sexy underwear if I go out, have a date, or if I am having an overnight guest. I do this because I take pride in how I look with my clothes off and I have taken a lot of time in making sure my body looks good and it is important that my underwear enhance my sexiness. Now you can shop where you want, however I tend to stay away from overly populated stores like H&M, now if there is not one in your city its cool, because there is no competition. H&M have very fashion forward garments, but everyone has their stuff. I don’t want to have company over and they just saw someone else in my same underwear a few weeks prior or the night before (whatever floats your boat). It is like shopping at Ikea, which I do, but I do it with the risk of going to several house parties and seeing my living room set at each of the apartments, people love bar
gains, but don’t cheat “you” out of sexiness.

Sizzle Miami is a hot circuit party that happens each year and this past year I had the opportunity to help one of my good friends in selecting his first sexy swimsuit and underwear, I went through the dos and don’ts of getting your first swimsuit, and now its your turn except I interviewed an underwear/swimwear expert who represents my favorite online underwear shop, check out the interview.

Thank you so much for highlighting underwear purchasing for men, so many of us do not know the first thing about shopping for our under garments and think that sexy underwear is just something for women.

1.What is the Official name of your site?

The-Tee.Com

2. How important do you think having nice underwear is versus wearing a nice
outfit?

Underwear is the foundation; to me it’s meant to evoke a feeling! How do I feel today? “Do I want to feel sexy, naughty, bad, thuggish etc. Women figured this out ages ago. I’m glad to see Men are becoming more in tune with their sexually.

3. What are the various types of underwear cuts and which is appropriate for whom?

I offer Bikini and Boxer Briefs in a variety of colors, and designs. In terms of who should wear what…I totally leave that up to the consumer.

4. Are the majority of your clients who actually order underwear men or their wives/

Both! Women love my line. Believe it or not it’s unisex, in the future you will see women on my site.

5. How can you size yourself for appropriate underwear?

By waist, and it’s all about fit and being comfortable! You don’t want underwear that will rise on you. At the end of the day, if you have a line after you removed your underwear…chances are they are to small!

6. If a guy is looking to enhance special areas, what are some options he can explore in choosing underwear? Is there miracle underwear available?

If a guys has great legs….I think boxer briefs are sexy! A great set of legs and butt, Bikini briefs will always win! I often tell guys to try thongs ( they fear they may be uncomfortable ). In terms of a miracle, well there are some lines that offer padded underwear, but that’s almost cheating huh? Lol

7. For most guys comfort is far more important than fashionable underwear, what cut of underwear are the most comfortable yet sexy?

Again… I leave that up to the client, what works for one may not work for another. Tye, my muse loves bikini briefs, and feels boxer briefs are a little uncomfortable. I will only wear boxer briefs, however love thongs and bikinis.

8. Where can men/women purchase your underwear?

The-Tee.com

9. If a guy ha
s questions about underwear to get, size confusion, or appropriate cuts for his body who should contact?

Zolra's Corner: The Debate Regarding A Bag of Dorritos

If you have to complain about a bag of Dorritos, then something must be wrong with you.

The same day I was buying a honey bun because I didn't feel like cooking, this incident happened. I walked up to the front desk with my bag and money ready. In front of me was this man that was still deciding what he wanted to buy. He didn't look homeless or anything. He looked like he was coming right out of a law firm. Just looking down at his alligator shoes made me think he was rich. I remember being at the mall, staring at the shoes. They are not cheap.

$1200

While I was waiting for my turn, I suddenly hear some shouting going on right in front of me. I saw the man complaining with the owner of the store about the price of the chips. He felt like the price was too high. During the argument, I was talking to myself in the back of my head because I couldn't believe what was happening in front of me.

"It's just thirty cents man," I said internally.

This was the first time that I ever heard someone complain about thirty cents worth of Dorritos. I knew that he could afford. If you are wearing thousands of dollars worth of clothes, then you can buy one of the cheapest items in the world (right next to Lollipops, which cost 25 cents).

Once the debate was over, he decided to pay the full price. He pulled out a $100 dollar bill and said "Keep the change." He stormed out of the store without talking to anyone. Just looking at that made me laugh so hard internally, I felt like I was going to bruise my aorta. Never in my life did I ever see a argument regarding a bag of Dorritos that was worth thirty cents.

Black Men in America as Stressed-Out Strivers

“Through the Night”: Daniel Beaty in this solo show at Riverside Theater.
By ANITA GATES

Run, black man, run,” Daniel Beaty says fiercely. “Run to your children — hold them tight.”
It’s not surprising that Bill Cosby is a fan of Mr. Beaty’s work. It brings to life everything that Mr. Cosby has spoken out about in recent years in terms of African-Americans’ taking responsibility for their own lives. And when Mr. Beaty takes up the topic, it’s not a speech. It’s a poem.

“Through the Night,” which Mr. Beaty is performing with his signature wit, grit and piercing lyricism, is a thing of beauty. Now in a limited run at the Riverside Theater in Morningside Heights, this drama has been described as a look at what it means to be black and male in the United States today, but its deepest meanings transcend race and gender.

Mr. Beaty’s work could be compared to many solo shows in which a performer portrays multiple characters, but his method is different, at least in this play. “Through the Night” has a clear-cut, linear plot that takes shape smoothly and artfully, and builds to a real-life crisis with a jolt of magic realism.
The black men in “Through the Night” are striving, and that is taking its toll, even on 10-year-old Eric, who is determined to develop a magic formula for his herbal iced tea. His father, Mr. Rogers (whose neighborhood is Harlem), is trying desperately to make a go of his health-food store, but people, it seems, would rather clog their arteries with so-called soul food.

Mr. Rogers’s one employee, Dre, is fighting the temptation to use drugs again while he waits for his first child to be born, praying that the baby will, unlike its parents, be H.I.V.-free. Eric’s pal ’Twon has won one battle — he is graduating from high school — but is struggling for the courage to go away to college in Atlanta, to a world that is foreign to him.

’Twon’s mentor, Isaac, a music-industry executive, works long, stress-filled hours, but puts almost as much energy into hiding the reason he’s 40 and unmarried. His father, a successful minister with a congregation of 10,000, is fighting for his life. He weighs 300 pounds, is diabetic and joins Overeaters Anonymous, but still wants creamy, chocolaty HoHos in the middle of the night.

Women are not seen that often, but they are a vital, cherished part of the men’s lives: Mr. Rogers’s long-gone mother, who cleaned offices to support her children (“I never saw you dance”), for instance, and his wife, who toils at a salaried job so her husband can keep his store going. And Mr. Beaty’s gifts are such that when female characters do speak through him, his demeanor and posture change in astonishing ways. I could swear he suddenly has breasts, but maybe that’s a trick of Jacqueline Reid’s lighting design.

“Through the Night” continues through May 23 at the Riverside Theater, in Riverside Church, 91 Claremont Avenue, at 120th Street, Morningside Heights; (212) 870-6784; www.theriversidetheatre.org.

Rising Son: The New Karate Kid

Jaden Smith soars in The Karate Kid.

By Krista Smith Photograph by Art Streiber

Only 11 years old, Jaden Smith possesses genes that have positioned him for stardom. He made his film debut in the Oscar-nominated The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) as the son of the character played by his real-life father, Will Smith. His mother is the actress and singer Jada Pinkett Smith, and his nine-year-old sister, Willow, has appeared in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl and I Am Legend. This month Jaden kick-starts another reboot of The Karate Kid, the 80s franchise that made Ralph Macchio a teen heartthrob and went on to spawn a girl’s version, The Next Karate Kid (1994), featuring a then unknown Hilary Swank.

Jaden is the youngest actor to take on the strenuous title role. His character, Dre Parker, relocates with his mother, played by Taraji P. Henson, from Detroit to Beijing, where most of the Sony picture was filmed. His favorite sights? “I was working the whole time,” says Jaden. “I only got to see the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.” And how was the Chinese food? “I ate burgers.” Bullies at school and a forbidden crush drive Dre to learn how to defend himself, and under the guidance of Mr. Han, a martial-arts master played by Jackie Chan, he becomes a devoted student of kung fu and triumphantly surprises everybody, including himself. “Jackie Chan is amazing,” says Jaden. “On the set, he was teaching everybody. I have been doing karate since I was five, but kung fu is way different.”

In Theaters on JUNE 11th
