Notes from Nathan - What are you afraid of?

Often times in our adult life, many of us have created "comfort zones". It is within these zones that we feel safe away from any unnecessary discomfort and drama. We know where we live, we know where we work, we go to the same grocery store, we talk to the same people and life is pretty much the same old thing.

So I ask "what are u afraid of?" What if u went to a different grocery store for a new experience? What if u made a new friend on your morning commute to work? Does your comfort zone keep you from living a more fulfilled life? Have you thrown in the towel when it comes to new relationships? Are u scared to talk to strangers? What are you afraid of?

Don't continue to allow these online portals to make you socially handicapped. Get out there and meet new people. The only thing keeping you from a social life is YOU! Wake up!

CBS Premiered 'Undercover Boss' after Superbowl

CBS previewed the show that aired in the coveted spot immediately following the Superbowl on Sunday, February 7, and it's not one of their top hit shows like The Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist, or even Survivor. This year they premiered a brand new reality series called Undercover Boss in the post-Superbowl slot.

It's certainly not the first time a network has put a brand new show on after the Superbowl (Fox did it in 2005 with American Dad's premiere and ABC did it in 1995 with Extreme) but it's far from common practice. And to utilize the space for a brand new reality series, in a time when reality series seem to come and go faster than the wind does seem a bit odd. Add to that the fact that this is coming from the network with some of the biggest ratings hits on television, and it almost seems ludicrous. But it's not as crazy as it may sound.

I'm far from a fan of reality television; in fact I despise it for the most part. However, I will say that there are a few good reality shows out there. The Amazing Race and The Biggest Loser definitely fall into that category of good shows that focus more on positive elements and don't drown viewers in massive amounts of obviously fake drama. Well, in that respect, Undercover Boss seems like it might just fall into the good side of reality programming (remember, I said might. I'm still skeptical of reality television).

The new reality show will take the CEO of a company and give him an undercover mission that will place him within the lowest ranks of his own company. He'll be given a position that is far separated from his standard, plush corner office and forced to see what his decisions and the actions he's taken as the CEO do to the rank and file of the company. Now that's a show almost anyone can watch, and enjoy, except maybe for the CEO's out there. It seems like it could definitely be a concept that would garner some ratings success and be enjoyable to watch. After premiering on February 7 it will move into its normal timeslot on Sunday, February 14 at 9 pm/c after The Amazing Race in a new 2-hour reality block. Cold Case will follow it at 10 pm/c. Zolra's Corner: Gay's Anatomy

What I discovered online really shocked me. I only watched the first episode of this web series, and I am already addicted to it. It's amazing on what you can find with just a little typing and one click on the search button on Google.

Aside from watching comedies and dramedies, I am a fan of medical dramas. I am not a fan of pure drama series. I know drama makes great ratings, but I like having a little bit of comedy every now and then. However, I can't say that I am against drama series since I used to watch a pure drama series and I am watching a teen drama right now. Queer as Folk and Gossip Girl are the only series on my list of all time favorite shows in the drama category. So I can't deny watching one episode every now and then.

Many people are starting to create online web series. I see alot of shows surrounding the gay community online. Drama Queenz and In The Moment were the first ones I noticed. Now I add a new one to my list. The moment I saw the first episode of this online series, two things popped up in my head
  • This is a good comedy series
  • I hope they are not making a comedy version of one of my favorite medical dramas.
There is this online series that is all over the web: Youtube, Facebook, Myspace, Vimeo, and Blip. It's a comedy-drama called Gay's Anatomy.

Set in New York City, this probing series begins as three recently graduated med students compete for a spot in the city's top urology program. But what happens when your whole life revolves around the prostate? Get ready, because Mark, Marc, and Jim - plus their friends, colleagues, and an ever-expanding collection of bed mates - will bring you deep into the world of urology.

They work hard. They play harder. They touch your privates for a living. It began on June 18, and these doctors are... out. Below is the first episode. If you want more info, go to their website gays-anatomy.com

If you are fans of Grey's Anatomy, don't count on this show to be the same. The ABC show is a medical drama. Gay's Anatomy is a dramedy. Be sure to watch the other episodes.

Law & Order celebrates 20th Season

“Law & Order” celebrated a very special milestone as it returned to NBC for its 20th season; it is now tied with “Gunsmoke” as the longest running primetime drama on TV.

To recognize this achievement, New York City Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting Commissioner Katherine Oliver delivered a proclamation on behalf of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg declaring Wednesday, September 23 as “Law & Order Day.”The proclamation read, in part: “The longest-running crime series and one of the longest-running shows in television history, ‘Law & Order’ has garnered numerous awards (including an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series) and given birth to two successful spin-offs. A ‘Made in NY’ production that is filmed on location throughout the five boroughs, ‘Law & Order’ gave our city a starring role in the series from the beginning.“As both the setting and shooting location for ‘Law & Order,’ New York City has benefited tremendously from the show’s success over the past two decades...

As the show celebrates its twentieth year on the air, all New Yorkers can join together in applauding its tremendous accomplishments and wishing it even greater success in the years ahead.”Dick Wolf, executive producer and creator, was on hand to receive the proclamation along with members of the cast and crew. Current cast members Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Anthony Anderson, Jeremy Sisto, Linus Roache, and Alana De La Garza were joined by a number of “Law & Order” alumni, including Jesse L. Martin, Benjamin Bratt, Jill Hennessy, Dann Florek, and Carey Lowell, to take part in cake cutting ceremony.“Law & Order” airs on NBC on Fridays at 8pm.
